If you follow the blogosphere, you may know that many bloggers have been posting “Things I’m Afraid To Tell You” posts telling their audience some personal and difficult things they deal with and are scared to talk about. I originally found this post on Style and Pepper‘s blog, but it originated on Make Under My Life. Then, Creature Comforts created a movement out of it, and now there is a wide range of bloggers expressing their difficulties and challenges in life.
I think it is important to be real about everything. There’s no point in being fake or putting on a front just to impress someone. And I would like to make it clear, that that’s not the point of my blog. The reason I have my fashion blog is not to impress my (small) audience, but because I enjoy it and want to share my passion and discoveries with others.
Anywho, here are a couple things that I am not usually that open about with people, especially people I don’t know.
- I suffer from anxiety and depression. I was diagnosed in my sophomore year of high school (three years ago) and have been on medication since then. It wasn’t that big of a surprise because it runs in my family. Both of my parents struggle with it, as well as several extended family members. My closest aunt (Pat Todd) took her own life last May because she was over struggling and having her husband who is a pastor in North Carolina take care of her. Since then, my mom has really been keeping an eye on me to make sure I don’t do the same. BUT, I would NEVER do that to her. I saw what it did to her with my aunt and I would never be able to put my mom through that pain again. On the positive note, I have been doing well in the past few months. I have been leaning on God as my strength and He is my only source of joy.
- I’m a broke college student, and I’m not proud of it. I get paid every other Friday, and my paycheck seems to disappear within a few days each time. I am horrible at saving money, and honestly can’t control myself. Being that I am almost constantly surrounded by fashion with my job and social media, I am always wanting to stay on top of the current trends, and wear them as well. That being said, I can not wait until I have a career and make more money! Hopefully then I’ll have mastered the art of saving money.
- I am addicted to social media. Twitter, Facebook (not as much anymore), blogging, and especially INSTAGRAM (oh my gosh, Instagram…). I have an iPhone and laptop which make accessing the internet super easy. I check Instagram and Twitter constantly, and can never miss a post. It’s bad. I am in a college group at my church called Rooted, and we had a prayer experience last Thursday. In order to prepare for it, we were supposed to fast from something that consumes us, and I decided to fast from technology. It was very difficult, but it helped greatly that I had work in the morning. It was amazing to take a break from technology and social media. I felt relaxed, for once. I should definitely do it more often.
