A couple weekends ago, a few friends and I drove out to Joshua Tree to celebrate my birthday! I took SO many photos, so I’m going to share them in three parts.
Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center
We checked out the visitor center for our first stop to pick up a map, and walked around a little trail that was honestly not too exciting.
Silver Bell Mine
The first stop after the Visitor’s Center was a trail that led up to a couple old mines (not sure what the name of it is). It was a fairly steep climb, and unfortunately my exercise induced asthma kicked in, so I didn’t hike all the way up to the mines. Instead, my friend Brittany and I stopped at this one spot to take pictures, and ended up just sitting/standing in the silence while waiting for the other two to come back down. I hadn’t heard silence like that in SO LONG, so it was very refreshing. The only thing I could hear was a little wind, and it made me just stand and appreciate the beauty of this open land that God gave us to enjoy and be with Him in. I could definitely feel His presence.
In the photo above, you can see the two mines towards the right side of the hills.

Cholla Cactus Garden
I’d seen so many beautiful pictures of the Cholla Cactus Garden, specifically during golden hour. The light shines through the cactus’ fluffy-looking spikes and makes them look like they’re glowing! Unfortunately we were there in the middle of the day so I didn’t get to see them in all their glory, but it was still beautiful!
A few minutes after this picture was taken, my friend Brittany (pictured above) tried to gently kick a little cactus ball with her foot, and it got stuck. She then tried to fling it off, and it stuck to her leg! It didn’t really bleed, but she said it hurt a lot. So, let that be a learning lesson for you–don’t touch the cacti!!!
Stay tuned for my next Joshua Tree post coming tomorrow!
